August 1, 2024A massive sculpture of Spider-Man and his Spider-Bats will adorn the stern of Disney Destiny, marking the first time a Marvel character has been featured on a Disney Cruise Line ship.
The company plans to integrate other Marvel stories and characters throughout the 144,000-gross-ton ship, in line with the vessel’s “heroes and villains” theme.
Disney Destiny is scheduled to debut in November 2025 and will offer 4- and 5-night cruises to The Bahamas and Western Caribbean.
Bookings open September 12.
“The heroes and villains theme of the Disney Destiny provides the perfect platform for us to collaborate with Disney Cruise Line on all-new, Marvel-inspired experiences guests won’t find anywhere else on land or at sea across the multiverse,” says Brian Crosby, who leads Marvel experiences development for Marvel Studios. “We’re honoring some of our classic heroes like Black Panther and Spider-Man on board, and we’re celebrating the larger-than-life personalities of the Avengers as inspiration for one-of-a-kind venues. This will be a must-do for all True Believers.”
The Marvel Universe will be represented throughout the 4,000-guest vessel. The Grand Hall—the ship’s central gathering area—will feature iconography and colors from the “Black Panther” films. Designers took inspiration from “Black Panther” costumes, including the banded armor and stacked jewelry found in Wakanda, to create metalwork-encrusted pillars. The space will also feature a light fixture inspired by Vibranium, the rare metallic ore in Wakanda.
A statue of T’Challa, the Black Panther: King of Wakanda will keep watch over the area, and performers will put on shows on the Grand Hall stage.
Next to the Grand Hall on decks four and five, guests will find Saga, a two-story hub for family activities during the day and adult-exclusive entertainment at night. Its dramatic design is also inspired by Wakanda.
Travelers will also be able to relax in the Sanctum, a centrally located lounge inspired by “Doctor Strange” featuring coffee and cocktails.
The ship will also have a one-of-a-kind penthouse tower suite with a sleek, industrial design inspired by “Iron Man.” The suite will be located in the ship’s forward funnel and will have nearly 2,000 square feet of living space. Up to eight guests can sleep comfortably, as well as enjoy perks like a private ensuite elevator and a full kitchen.
The Destiny Tower Suite is just one of the concierge-level accommodations that will be available to guests booked on the new ship. Travelers will have access to a private sun deck and a concierge lounge that’s decorated with art pieces honoring “The Avengers.”
Though many spaces and features are exclusive to Disney Destiny, the ship does incorporate some fan-favorites from other Disney ships. Guests who’ve sailed aboard Disney Wish will recognize Worlds of Marvel, the Marvel-themed dining experience starring Rocket and Groot from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.
Disney Destiny will also have an Oceaneer Club for kids ages 3 to 10. The space will feature the Marvel Super Hero Academy, “a high-tech Avengers headquarters where young “recruits” are trained to be the next generation of super heroes alongside some of their favorite Avengers,” according to the cruise line.
