Emerald Cruises’ newest ship, the Emerald Kaia, reached a key construction milestone this month, as crews cut the first sheets of steel for the hull.
The luxury yacht is being built in Vietnam by the Halong Shipbuilding Company. Nguyen Tuan Anh, the shipyard’s general director, and Ivo Skelin, the general manager of Scenic Group’s nautical and technical division, were on hand to celebrate the milestone on August 22.
The cruise line expects to host a keel-laying ceremony in three months.
“Building on the spectacular success of the first two yachts in Emerald Cruises’ fleet, this pivotal expansion not only reflects the soaring interest and desire for luxury ocean yachts, however, also reinforces our commitment to setting new standards in maritime excellence,” says Glen Moroney, chairman and founder of Scenic Group, the parent company of Emerald Cruises and Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours.
The 393-foot-long ship, which is slated to debut in April 2026, will be able to accommodate up to 128 guests. It will feature a reimagined sky deck with private cabanas, a new indoor/outdoor sky lounge, a marina and a marina lounge, an observation sun deck, a spa and fitness center and more.
