Travelers looking forward to Brightline West’s connection between Los Angeles and Las Vegas will be happy to learn that a company has been chosen to build the high-speed trains.
Brightline West announced that Siemens Mobility will develop a production facility for the trains in Horseheads, New York, with production expected to begin in 2026. The manufacturing plant will cover nearly 300,000 square feet and produce the American Pioneer 220 train.
Siemens Mobility officials said the new trains will feature a gearless propulsion system that reduces energy consumption and allows it to climb steep grades effortlessly. Brightline is expected to complete the high-speed rail system by 2028.
“This new facility in Horseheads, New York, marks the beginning of a brand-new industry in the USA – bringing both high-speed rail production and some of the world’s most modern trains to the continent for the first time,” Siemens Mobility CEO Michael Peter said.
In addition, Brightline West unveiled several renderings of the new trains.
