U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) previously announced fee changes to the Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI trusted traveler programs officially went into effect on Tuesday, October 1.
Low-risk travelers applying for the expedited screening programs can now expect to pay $120. The cost of Global Entry was previously $100 while NEXUS was just $50.
SENTRI applicants will see little change as the fee dropped only slightly from $122.25.
According to the CBP, the fee changes are necessary to successfully manage the programs.
“As these programs have matured and expanded, updating the fee structures is critical to the continuation and management of the programs,” the agency said.
CBP also confirmed that “once the rule goes into effect, applicants under the age of 18 will be exempt from the application fee when a parent or legal guardian is already a member of, or concurrently applying for NEXUS, SENTRI, or Global Entry.”
Global Entry first launched in 2008 and has been expanding ever since. Earlier this year, Brand USA partnered with CBP to bring the trusted traveler program to Japan and South Korea.
