In 2027, Ponant will introduce 12-night expeditions to the Geographic North Pole onboard Le Commandant Charcot roundtrip from Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen Island in Norway.
Departure dates are scheduled for July 27, August 8, August 20 and September 1, 2027, with Le Commandant “traversing the drifting sea ice of the Arctic Ocean en route to 90 degrees North – the northernmost point on Earth,” Ponant said.
Highlights of the expeditions – which journey through Norway’s Svalbard archipelago – include viewing polar bears, whales, seals, seabirds and Arctic foxes; Zodiac excursions, kayaking; ice landings; snowshoeing; polar plunging; and a call to the remote village of Ny-Ålesund.
“Unique among polar expeditions, this journey to the Geographic North Pole offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the Arctic as few ever have,” said Samuel Chamberlain, CEO of Ponant Explorations Group, Americas.
“Over the past 15 months, we’ve worked closely with our deployment team to thoughtfully design a 12-night itinerary that will appeal to this market.”
The expeditions include roundtrip airfare from Paris to Longyearbyen and transfers.
With Le” Commandant Charcot, we’ve created a ship that not only pushes the boundaries of polar navigation but also serves as a platform for scientific research, environmental stewardship, and cultural exchange,” Chamberlain said.

Latitude 90° north and around 430 miles from the nearest landmass… Who amongst us hasn’t at one time or another dreamt of one day travelling to the very end of the world? A theatre of dreams, myths and human and technological exploits, but also, and since ancient times, of tragedy, the North Pole has always fascinated and intrigued. How many are the explorers who’ve attempted to reach the Geographical North Pole? Credit must finally go to Jean-Louis Étienne, who in 1986 became the first person to reach the North Pole alone, on skis. Embark for a cruise to the North Pole and you too can live this extraordinary adventure.
