They may earn less than their Millennial counterparts, but Gen Z isn’t letting that hold them back, at least when it comes to traveling and exploring the world this fall.
Gen Z traveler searches are up 26 percent this fall, according to Airbnb’s fall travel trends report and they’re planning longer international trips compared to millennials.
This surge in Gen Z travel is likely fueled by more affordable travel during the shoulder season, making international travel more approachable for younger travelers, suggests the report.
Underscoring that point, a recent Focaldata survey found that more than 80 percent of Gen Z respondents say affordability plays a role in their fall travel decisions, and 42 percent believe that traveling during fall is “a great deal.”
Where are all the Gen Z travelers headed, you ask? Paris, France is the top trending fall destination for Gen Z, according to the experts at Airbnb. An iconic destination, Paris offers plenty of unforgettable sights including the Eiffel Tower, the world-famous Louvre Museum, the palace of Versailles and Montmartre, to name a few.
Beyond the City of Lights, the full list of top trending destinations for Gen Z globetrotters reveals what Airbnb suggests is a clear trend focused on “affordable luxury.”
Here are the destinations that Gen Z has put on their fall to-do list:
- Paris, France
- Osaka, Japan
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Miami, FL, United States
- Porto, Portugal
- Cartagena, Colombia
- London, United Kingdom
- Munich, Germany
- Mexico City, Mexico

In general, Generation Z is more open to new experiences in less touristed places. In response to Contiki’s annual Voice of a Generation survey, 84% percent of Gen Z travelers reported they’d love to travel to a “destination dupe” over a popular place, and 56% reported they’d prefer visiting off-the-beaten-path destinations.
