Leading travel search engine Kayak’s Travel Trends Forecast reveals increased interest, lower airfares and emerging global hotspots for 2026.
Flight data searches found that travel interest has increased by 9 percent while airfares have decreased 3 percent domestically and 10 percent internationally.
“Lower fares and rising interest mean travelers can stretch their budgets further in 2026,” said a KAYAK spokesperson. “Couple lower fares with new routes expanding access to historically under-the-radar cities and you’ve got travelers finding more reasons and more ways to explore the world.”
Eastern Europe Dominates 2026 Destinations
Europe is leading 2026 travel trends with Eastern Europe setting the pace. Seven of the top trending destinations are located in Eastern Europe due to its affordability, cultural depth and improved connectivity.
Fastest rising destinations with increasing interest include:
- Prague, Czech Republic: up 180 percent
- Sofia, Bulgaria: up 136 percent
- Krakow, Poland: up 106 percent
- Budapest, Hungary: up 86 percent
- Tirana, Albania: up 66 percent
- Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: up 62 percent
The world’s fastest-growing destination for Americans is Christchurch, New Zealand, with a 194 percent year-over-year increase in flight interest with new nonstop services.
Fandom-Fueled 2026 Travel Surges
Pop culture, sports and global events are leaving an unmistakable imprint on travel behavior. Surging major fandom cities include:
- Kansas City — with a 14 percent rise in interest, ranking among the top 50 trending destinations for Americans, fueled by its powerhouse football team, heightened celebrity buzz, and role as a host city for the upcoming world soccer tournament.
- Milan — experiencing a 15 percent lift in flight searches as excitement builds ahead of the 2026 Winter Games.
- Las Vegas — rebounding with an 18 percent increase in flight interest, ranking among the top 50 cities in KAYAK’s top trend list propelled by new entertainment residencies, major events and competitive fares.
Where to Find the Best Deals in 2026
KAYAK’s analysis shows the best flight deals are returning. Destinations with the largest drops in airfare include:
- Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: down 36 percent
- Split, Croatia: down 33 percent
- Naples, Italy: down 26 percent
- Florence, Italy: down 26 percent
- Shannon, Ireland: down 25 percent
For travelers prioritizing low-cost domestic options, Punta Gorda, Florida, New York, New York, and Raleigh, North Carolina offer the lowest average airfare for 2026.
Early Searches Show Strong International Interest
Early planning for summer 2026 is already underway, with summer searches up 9 percent compared to 2024.
Notable insights include:
- International airfare down 12 percent, making long-haul trips more accessible than in prior seasons.
- Asia and Europe emerging as top value picks, with airfare down 16 percent and 14 percent, respectively.
- The Middle East experiencing a 35 percent increase in summer search interest, driven by expanding flight connectivity.
- The Caribbean up 15 percent, supported by strong demand for warm-weather escapes.
