Royal Caribbean has introduced new restrictions banning the use of smart glasses in specific spaces onboard, as first reported by Royal Caribbean Blog.
“‘Smart’ glasses from any of several manufacturers that can record video and audio are not allowed to be used in certain areas onboard the ship, including, but not limited to, public restrooms, Youth Program areas, medical areas, as well as the casino,” Royal Caribbean’s prohibited items list now states.
This ban is meant to protect passengers from being recorded without their knowledge or consent and to protect the cruise line from security risks.
Restrictions apply to any brand of smart glasses, including Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses.
Guests are still permitted to bring smart glasses onboard, but are advised to bring regular glasses as well in spaces where smart glasses are prohibited.
MSC Cruises implemented a similar rule in late 2025, banning the use of smart glasses in all areas across its fleet. So far, Royal Caribbean and MSC Cruises are the only two cruise lines with restrictions on smart glasses.
