Discerning travelers in quest of luxury accommodations in Barcelona – particularly this year, when the city celebrates Gaudí Year 2026 and its designation as the World Capital of Architecture – need look no further than a stay at the venerable El Palace Barcelona.
Just for starters, the hotel offers sweeping views of Gaudí’s unfinished basilica, the Familia Sagrada (Gaudí Year 2026 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the renowned architect’s death), with the fourth and final horizontal arm of the Tower of Jesus Christ set to be completed in June.
“One of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, the basilica, can be admired from the Rooftop Garden of El Palace Barcelona, offering one of the finest views of Gaudí’s masterpiece,” said El Palace Barcelona General Manager Pedro Rodriquez Madrigal.
“The hotel represents far more than a place to stay,” he added. “It is an integral part of the Barcelona experience itself,” appealing to travelers interested in history, architecture, the arts and haute cuisine.
“El Palace Barcelona is the ideal base from which to discover Barcelona in an authentic and elegant way, appealing to travelers who value heritage, refinement and a sense of place, and who seek a stay that is as meaningful as it is memorable,” he said.
“The hotel maintains a close relationship with culture, architecture and gastronomy, as well as its commitment to preserving the values of classic luxury while delivering a highly personalized level of service,” Rodriguez added.
A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the hotel, which is equipped with 120 guestrooms and suites, made its debut in 1919 as the Ritz of Barcelona and is believed to be the oldest hotel in the city.
Reflecting that history, the hotel is named after famous guests who lived or stayed at the property, including Salvador Dalí, the Surrealist painter; Josephine Baker, the actress and civil rights activist; and Ron Wood, the Rolling Stones guitarist.
In addition to hosting well-known guests, El Palace Barcelona has earned a reputation for creating experiences tied to the city’s cultural assets.
“This year, we will be more closely aligned than ever with the unifying theme of architecture and Gaudí,” Rodriguea said.
“We will offer a series of experiences that highlight this connection, gradually unveiling them throughout the year to delight and surprise our guests, with a constant commitment to excellence.”
In addition to Gaudí Year 2026 and its designation as the World Capital of Architecture, Barcelona will also assume the role of European Capital of Christmas, further demonstrating that, while the city is internationally renowned for its mild climate and its strong appeal during the spring and summer seasons, it is by no means confined to a single narrative,” Rodriguez said.
“On the contrary, Barcelona continues to prove itself as an equally – if not even more – compelling destination during the winter months and the Christmas season, offering a distinctive blend of culture, atmosphere and urban vibrancy that resonates with international travelers year-round.”
