The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority(ABTA) is claiming May 2026 as its most delicious month of the year – because arriving in May is the return of its annual series, Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month.
Culinary Month is a monthlong celebration spotlighting local Antiguan and Barbudan cuisine alongside an all–Caribbean-heritage lineup of acclaimed chefs from the U.S., U.K., and Canada.
The event blends culture with community and serious culinary star power and includes an islandwide Restaurant Week with prix-fixe menus at $25, $50, and $75.
In addition, culinary month in Antigua and Barbuda features an immersive Eat Like A Local cookshop trail, the buzzy FAB (Food, Art & Beverage) Fest, and the region’s leading hospitality symposium, the Caribbean Food Forum.
This year’s chef lineup features James Beard winner Nina Compton, Top Chef Season 22 winner Tristen Epps, NYT three-star chef Paul Carmichael, TV personality Andi Oliver, Chopped Champion Claude Lewis, and a deep bench of Caribbean culinary talent celebrating the region’s foodways through collaborative dinners, beachside cookouts, and festival moments.

Antigua Travel Guide
Antigua is a small island nation located in the Caribbean Sea. You can find it in the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles. This island gem is part of the West Indies, situated east-southeast of Puerto Rico and northeast of Guadeloupe.
Antigua is known for its stunning beaches and this island attracts tourists from all over the world! They come to soak up the sun and enjoy the warm Caribbean waters.
Getting around Antigua is relatively easy, as the island is small and has a good road network. There are several options for transportation, including:
- Taxis: Taxis are available throughout the island. Fares are also regulated by the government and are posted at the airport and in taxi stands. Antigua taxes are typically shared, which means you may end up sharing a ride with other passengers.
- Rental Cars: Renting a car is a popular option for visitors who want to explore the island at their own pace. Several car rental companies operate on the island. Remember to drive on the left-hand side of the road, as in the United Kingdom.
- Buses: Public buses are available on the island and are an affordable way to get around. However, they can be crowded and we found that they aren’t always as reliable as other forms of transportation.
- Minibus Taxis: One unique form of transportation in Antigua is the local minibus or “bus taxi.” These small vans operate on set routes throughout the island and are popular with locals. While they may be a bit crowded, they are a great way to experience local life and get around the island affordably.
Important Things To Know – Currency
The currency used in Antigua is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$).
Many vendors in Antigua may offer goods and services for both US dollars and Eastern Caribbean dollars.

National Languages
The official language of Antigua is English and almost everyone on the island speaks it so you can communicate easily with locals during your visit.
That being said, you may also hear Antiguan Creole being spoken by some locals. African, British, and West Indian languages influence this local dialect. It is a unique part of Antigua’s cultural heritage.
Climate And Weather
Antigua has a tropical climate, meaning it experiences warm temperatures year-round with relatively consistent humidity levels. The island enjoys an average temperature of around 80°F (27°C).
The rainy season in Antigua runs from June to November. You can expect the heaviest rainfall to occur between August and October. However, even during the rainy season, there is still plenty of sunshine and dry weather to enjoy.
