August 26, 2024American Cruise Lines has christened its newest ship, American Liberty.
The 100-passenger ship is the third new Coastal Cat in the company’s fleet. The christening ceremony took place at Fort Adams State Park, in Newport, Rhode Island, where all of the line’s ships dock when visiting Newport.
America Liberty stopped in Newport during its inaugural cruise, the line’s popular “New England Islands” itinerary that sails round trip from Providence. The ship will continue to sail that route until September, when it will begin offering a mix of East Coast itineraries, including the “Hudson River Fall Foliage” itinerary and the “Historic South & Golden Isles” trips.
The ship’s godmother is Clare Harington, the vice commodore of the New York Yacht Club. She performed the traditional christening ritual of smashing a bottle of Champagne against the vessel.
“We look forward to further developing our longtime partnerships in Newport and many other historic coastal towns along the Eastern Seaboard,” says Charles B. Robertson, president and chief executive officer of American Cruise Lines.
American Liberty is just the latest addition to American Cruise Lines’ fleet. In January, the line welcomed American Glory. Last August, American Eagle joined the fleet. The line’s fourth Coastal Cat, American Legend, is slated to debut in November.
American Liberty is part of the Project Blue Series, an ongoing effort that will ultimately add 12 new small ships to the line’s fleet.
